I am a Christian woman, a pastor’s wife, “mom” to one dog, Paleo enthusiast, and aspiring health, nutrition, and fitness coach. Around 2003 my health started to decline. I had had minor problems before then with hormonal imbalance mostly, and at one point was told that I have Candida overgrowth. In 2003 I also switched from an Atkins type low carb diet to a Paleo diet and lifestyle but still my health continued to decline. In 2008, after quite a bit of emotional stress, I went downhill fast.
Despite being told by many doctors that there is nothing wrong, and being handed prescriptions for Prozac because it’s “all in my head”, I continued to search for answers. January 2009 I started the GAPS protocol and joined the GAPS Yahoo group. June 2011, after consulting with many, many doctors and trying everything I could think of, including a 21 day fast, I decided to get a CD57 blood test. My level at the time was 20 which prompted me to ask my (Lyme Literate) MD for a Lyme and Co-Infections panel from Igenex. It came back positive for Lyme and Babesia.
January 2012 I started seeing Dr. Katherine Dahlgren at the Comprehensive Medical Center in Kirkland, Washington (shortly after they moved to Sophia Health Institute). I was in treatment with Dr. Dahlgren and Dr. Klinghardt for 2 years. While my health did improve some, I felt that the improvements I saw were somewhat disappointing considering the amount of time, money, and effort I had invested over those two years.
October 2014, after a stressful move from TN to MI, I went to the “For My Life” and “Walk Out Workshop” conferences at Be In Health in Thomaston, GA. I got worse before I got better but in November 2014 I stopped taking hydrocortisone which I had been on for adrenal insufficiency for 5 1/2 years. Doctors had told me I would never be able to stop taking it and if at all, I would have to wean very, very slowly. I cut my dose in half one day and stopped the next day. I also stopped all treatment for Lyme, parasites, candida, and all the stuff I had been doing for the past 10 years or so. I decided to live as clean/healthy as possible and trust God for my healing, which has not been easy and I had a lot of fear.
Early 2016, after a very stressful time of caring for my mother, and then losing her, a friend suggested I try limbic system retraining. I ordered the DVDs from Retraining The Brain
and saw almost immediate improvements. There have been ups and downs and it has not been an easy journey, but I am seeing more improvements through renewing my mind (Romans 12:2) and taking every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) than I did in all those years spending thousands of dollars on supplements, medications, treatments, and doctors.
This blog not only chronicles my healing journey, but it’s a blog about living as clean as possible – No Junque Living. This includes diet, hair care, skin care, household cleaners, laundry detergent, and more. I hope it will be a resource to others who are struggling with chronic illness or anybody looking to live a cleaner, healthier life.
